Being Jewish has cost you dearly. You've learned the bitter and painful lesson that to be a Jew can be dangerous, even fatal. In quiet moments, you are angry that your grandparents or parents did not leave Judaism and become Christians.

Perhaps Christianity is the solution to your problems. It could also be the answer to the world's problems. On the other hand, too many wrongs have been committed in the name of Christianity for you to believe that this is the way to peace and brotherhood. Looking around, you find only one choice left. You join the Communist party, the party which has long preached ideals you find attractive: peace, truth, equality, sharing — things that are important to you. A job in a party office permits you to rise slowly through the ranks until you are a well-respected official.

One Simchat Torah, you see a crowd of Jews dancing outside the synagogue. Curious, you enter. Someone offers you a seat and hands you a prayer book and a tallit. You read the words about Torah and about the covenant between God and the Jewish people. You feel a power within yourself, urging you to change your life.

You decide to become involved again in the life of the Jewish community and synagogue. When you had abandoned your Judaism, you never realized how much you would miss being part of this life. Now you plunge in with renewed energy and enthusiasm. Every Shabbat, you sit in the synagogue, and feel totally at home. Finally you are at peace.
