You nose around Lourdes for a few days, hiding whenever Vichy
patrols pass. Soon, you overhear a conversation that suggests that a
particular dealer in religious objects is, in fact, a member of the
resistance. With the greatest fear of your life, you go into the store.
The dealer takes one look at you, grabs you by the coat, and drags
you into the back room. You took a great chance in coming here,
‘mon vieux.’ But we'll ‘pass’ you into Spain.
Since few people can make the pilgrimage to Lourdes during the war, the dealer has permission to take truckloads of holy water across the border into Spain. You are safe!
