Berlin is a beautiful city. Tall, leafy trees line wide avenues, and elegant men and women stroll along the boulevards. Every evening, you can hear fine music and attend the best theaters. The University of Berlin is considered by many the best in the world!

It's the university that brought you to Berlin two years ago. You clearly remember the conversations you had with your parents in Cracow, trying to persuade them that a young Jew had little or no chance to become a doctor in Poland. You would not even be permitted to enroll at the university in Poland. But, in Germany, you could attend classes with other students and study medicine with the finest professors. Finally, they let you go, but only on condition that you live with a Jewish family and attend synagogue every Shabbat morning. You had no difficulty accepting those conditions, and you've had no regrets since coming to Berlin. Your studies have gone well; your life has been a whirl of excitement. You have made a good choice. First, you will attend the university; then, if you score well on the examination, you will be admitted to medical school; finally you will fulfill your dream of becoming a doctor.
