In the Narocz Forest, you meet armed partisan units led
by Chaim Lazar and Abba Kovner. They have named one of their groups
The Vengeance
because they intend to extract a heavy price from the
hated Germans. After acceptance into the group, you are given some
elementary military training. Then you go on the attack. One night you
ambush a German convoy. Explosives that you have planted on the road set
several trucks on fire, and your machine gun bullets kill many German
soldiers. You race away from the massacre, sickened by the deaths you have
caused. Revenge is not sweet but brutal. You much prefer those missions
that involve blowing up train tracks and bridges.
The peasants are afraid of your units and give you food, but it is
difficult to secure enough weapons. The Germans cut off your supply.
Anti-Semitic Russian partisans hope you meet some misfortune. Still, you
will never give up. You remember the words of the famous poem,
Zog nit keynmol oz du geshst den letzen weg,
Never say you walk the
final road. You all conclude that you will fight on, to the death if
necessary. You are uncertain, however, if you will continue your fighting
in the forest or if you will leave that area.
If you decide to leave the Narocz Forest area, continue to page 75.
If you choose to continue hiding there, continue to page 76.
