Padre Benedette puts you in touch with the mayor of a small town, Orsogna, who provides you with yet another new identity. You now appear to be a good Roman Catholic, born, baptized, and raised in that little place. Your new documents state that your mother was German, the explanation for your fluency in that language.

With your new documents, you go south toward the area where active combat is taking place. In the city of Ancona, you find work as an interpreter in the German headquarters. As a spy, you learn only one piece of information, but it is the one that really counts: The Germans will pull back tomorrow as British and American troops advance up the peninsula of Italy.

As the Germans retreat, you sneak away and hide. As the battle continues, you find yourself behind Allied lines. You journey to Bari, where you make contact with advance units of the Jewish Brigade, a Palestinian unit in the British army.

After the war, they help you make aliyah. Your experiences land you a job in a reception center, helping other immigrants settle in Israel. You enjoy this work and continue it for the rest of your life.
