Keeping your eyes and ears open, you wander around the city. You soon discover that thousands of Jews are being hidden in Marseilles, in churches, in homes, and in factories. Throughout the city, patriotic French people are resisting the Germans by concealing Jewish refugees. You learn that a Capuchin monk, Father Marie-Benoit, is deeply involved in these illegal activities.

You go to the monastery on rue Croix de Rignier and explain your situation. Father Marie-Benoit extends his hand to you: Come in, my child. We'll try to do something to make your life safer and easier. You discover that the monastery serves as a factory for false documents and identity papers. Soon, you have a new name, address, and personal history. You are someone else, at least on paper.

You volunteer to help Father Marie-Benoit and enthusiastically join in his work. However, the Vichy government is dissolved by the Germans who take direct control of southern France. Father Marie-Benoit moves to Milan, Italy, where he becomes known as Padre Benedette. Dressed as a monk, you go with him, helping him get hundreds of French Jews safely through the Alps.

When the Germans occupy Italy, you must make a choice. With your knowledge of German, you can work for the enemy as an interpreter. In reality, you would be acting as a spy; or, you can join and work with a resistance group.
